England stormed Ireland’s Aviva Stadium fortress with an emphatic 33-20 win on the opening weekend of the 2019 Six Nations. Two tries from Henry Slade, as well as one apiece for Jonny May and Elliot Daly, condemned tournament favourites Ireland to their first Six Nations home defeat since 2013.
What are they saying?

“We went in [to Wales] with a particular strategy, we wanted to get our maul stronger and obviously the defence knows what you are going to do. If you add a few variations, it becomes harder to defend.

“We’ll definitely have a different selection strategy and definitely have a difference in the way we want to play [this weekend].”

While his captain, Owen Farrell, suggested that the preparations are still a work in progress:

“There’s a fair amount of experimentation.

“It’s not all guns blazing for everyone at the same time. As it gets closer and closer, I think you’ll start seeing the best of everyone and people will start showing what they are capable of come the World Cup.

“There’s plans in place. A lot of thought has gone into everything we do, behind the scenes, so that we build up to the World Cup, but we can’t deny that we want to win every game we’re playing.”

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is hoping to not have to make more enforced changes in the upcoming weeks:

“One of the things we’ve got to be absolutely committed to is going as hard as we can in this game because invariably when you start trying to look after yourself, you get the timing slightly wrong, you’re a little bit hesitant, and that’s when you can pick up something you’d rather not have.

“We’ll be hoping to get out of the game free of injury and I know that Eddie [Jones] will be hoping the same thing with the English lads, they’ve already named their 31, they have some guys who haven’t had much game time.”

And he provided an fitness update on Jonathan Sexton, as well showing his excitement for seeing what his replacement, 24-year-old Ross Byrne, can do in his stead:
